Traditionaly the Erich kästner museum year begins with the last prepartions for the birthday celebrations on the 23rd of february with our Museum festival.
This year the theme chosen is "Generations" and is the 7th museum pictogram. Generations will focus on the importance of young and old working together to form a better future. It is a statement of dual responsibility between the generations. It is a fundamental ingredient in every civilised society. It is also a call for an awareness of the importance of diversity and sustainibility in our actions and respect towards the other living organisms on our planet so that coming generations may enjoy the beauty of our world.

However before we venture further into the unknown of 2010 let me mention a very important project we undertook last year in cooperation with our sponsor and partner, the Cultural foundation of the bank of Dresden represented by Monika Kunz.

This project is a wonderful example of young and old working together, supported by local writers, several schools in dresden undertook the task of writing a short text on "friendship".
The texts were collected and were developed further in small workshops run by professional writers. The resultuings texts were published as a collection at the end of 2009 and were presented to the children as a small gesture of gratitude for their work.
We hope that this very special project can be repeated in 2010 and will be the beginning of a long tradtion of "Generations" working together.

Liebe Kinder und Nichtkinder!
„Kein Buch ohne Vorwort“ schreibt Erich Kästner in „Als ich ein kleiner Junge war“, denn „ein Vorwort ist für ein Buch so wichtig und so hübsch wie der Vorgarten für ein Haus. […] Ich bin nicht dafür, dass die Besucher gleich mit der Tür ins Haus fallen. Es ist weder für die Besucher gut, noch fürs Haus. Und für die Tür auch nicht.“
Mit unserem kleinen Vorwort möchten wir euch danken, dass ihr euch getraut habt. Dass ihr euch getraut habt, uns so viele herrlich bunte Geschichten zu schicken! Einige davon findet ihr in diesem schmalen, handlichen Buch. Damit wir nicht eines dieser ziegelsteinschweren Bücher machen, die Erich Kästner gar nicht mochte, haben wir eine Auswahl getroffen und uns dabei fest vorgenommen, mit eurer Hilfe nächstes Jahr ein neues Büchlein mit ganz frischen Geschichten zu drucken. Ihr seid doch hoffentlich wieder dabei? In unserem besonderen Museum für Erich Kästner spielt die Arbeit für und vor allem mit Kindern und Jugendlichen nämlich eine ganz große Rolle! Ob als Jungautor bei der Erich Kästner-Schreibwerkstatt, als Mitglied der Jugendliteraturredaktion, als Erfinder von Literaturrätseln für unseren Rätselkoffer, als Detektiv bei der Erich Kästner Rallye, als Sprachakrobat bei Poetry Kids oder einfach als Besucher unserer „Emil und die Detektive“- oder „Das fliegende Klassenzimmer“-Führungen im Museum – es gibt für alle Kinder und für Nichtkinder viele Möglichkeiten in unserem Verein mitzumachen.
